Music is, indeed, a part of the very essence of human beings. I have very eclectic tastes in music, loving everything from Yoruba Orisa music to Bluegrass to Hip-Hop. For Rite of Passage, we are going for a Blues / Classical / Hip-Hop fusion, to create a unique “Steamfunk sound” for the film. Thanks, so much, for your feedback Sheryse!

I am always amazed with how our people use music. It’s expresses our sorrow, gives us hope, provides instruction, helps us to keep time when working. So many things. I’m an old school rhythm and blues type of person, to answer your last question .

My whip instructor once hit himself in the back with the whip and drew spinal fluid! He was a young man, experimenting without proper instruction.With ANY weapon, you must have proper instruction and supervision and you must exercise safety first!
I would love to get together with the other choreographers…not to compare styles, however, but to drink from such a vast and deep well of knowledge!

Thank you for the inside scoop of how to train for an authentic fight scene. It was interesting to read how much training goes towards making these fights in film look realistic.

That’s quite a tale! Sounds exhausting but fun. I don’t think I could ever use a whip though; even without its unfortunate history, I would fear striking myself with it by accident!

Very informative piece on the choreographers. It would be amazing if you all got together, compared styles, and see who can stage fight the most convincingly.
